Innovation by Indian Railways goes for the safety purpose of passengers! In an attempt to offer safe passenger services, the Indian Railways has successfully completed the phase of analyzing defects in locomotives and wagons and wheels and bearings of coaches. With online monitoring of rolling stock OMRS India, the defects or faults will be detected sooner in the wheels and bearings of the coaches. With the aim to offer safe passenger services, Indian Railways has moved from manual inspection to automatic identification that is assisted by machine. And this is known as OMRS. OMRS will help in meeting the challenges faced by passengers and it will offer safer and economical services.
For the automating inspection, Indian Railways has moved towards online monitoring of rolling stock (OMRS) system. In this system, the wheel condition monitors, rail bearing acoustic monitors, acoustic bearing detectors, as well as wheel impact load detectors will be utilized for finding the defects in wheels and bearings of the rolling assets. The rolling stock referred to here in Indian Railways is to the railroad cars, locomotives, coaches, and wagons. Indian Railways, by adopting the OMRS technology, is ensuring to prevent the derailment and break-down of trains.
Online monitoring of rolling stock OMRS India for the safety of passengers
The adoption of automation and instrumentation such as OMRS by the Indian Railways in its maintenance practices is done for detecting defects/deficiencies in rolling assets. Moving towards OMRS is a big step that Indian Railways has taken in enhancing passengers’ safety. Moreover, some of the devices have already been fitted in Maharashtra and other states will get them soon. As per the reports it has been said that the Online Monitoring of Rolling Stock (OMRS) is installed between Central Railway’s Bhusawal and Jalgaon section and Wardha and Nagpur sections. This has been done as a part of the first phase of the execution. This claims to be most efficient in keeping passengers safe as with the help of this system, faults in wheels and locomotives (engines), can be detected. This could be done even while the train is in operating mode.

The objective of adopting OMRS is to gain machine-assisted automatic identification of defects before any catastrophic failure. This decision has lead to a paradigm shift in the maintenance practices of Indian Railways towards the rolling Stock. From following “Time Based Maintenance”, they have shifted to “Condition Based Predictive Maintenance” with a view to enhancing reliability and availability along with improved safety.
Online monitoring of rolling stock OMRS India will ensure efficiency and economical services
OMRS system is perfect to monitor the health of each Rolling Stock of the train. Also, the reports which be generated to see the defects and alert communications will take place in real-time for taking corrective action, accordingly. OMRS will enable the Indian Railways to cope-up with the present challenges of safety, efficiency, and economical services. However, what is important here is to choose a company that could do it efficiently. And, who else could do the job better than Hughes & Hughes Chem Private Limited.
